Getting between major Crimean cities is
best done by a fixed-route taxi. They're frequent, cheap and
often quite convenient. If you want to save a few hryvnia and don't
mind the extra time, trains, buses or trolleybuses (surprise
surprise, Crimea have the longest trolleybus line in the world) serve
almost every city and small town; they're best for short trips outside
main cities. Buses or trolleybuses might be not very clean and overcrowded,
but there's no better way to mingle with the locals than on a bumpy,
overheated ride through the countryside.
With fuel hard to come by, spare parts rare, road conditions may be
rugged, driving in Crimea is not recommended for the faint of heart.
Cars can be rented at a few major hotels in Kiev and at a handful
of agencies in the major cities. You'll need an International Driving
Permit; driving is on the right.
